One of the best things that have come out of this Pandemic era for music lovers is the weekly influx of music from artists & producers across Nigeria and beyond. In 2020 & 2021, we saw many African artists collaborate more than ever before, and amazing classics were created. Although we are barely two months into 2022, there have already been some crazy collaborations from the music scene, with more announced to be on the way. In this article, we rank our top 10 collaborations of 2022 (released & announced to be released).
- Reekado Banks & Fireboy DML
This was definitely a collaboration we didn’t know we needed but we are super grateful for it. Reekado & Fireboy teamed up to give us the first ‘Ozumba Mbadiwe Remix’. With a unique spin on the storyline from Fireboy and references to his hit song ‘Peru’, this collaboration was seamless, perfectly timed, and delivered effortless vibes.
- Basketmouth & Duktor Sett
Comedian & Actor Basketmouth returned to the scene last Friday with the release of his second studio album – ‘Horoscopes’, and he enlisted the help of music producer, Duktor Sett to work on all the tracks on this project. This comes after Basketmouth’s first 10-track album ‘Yabasi’ which Duktor Sett produced. It is clear that the chemistry between these two is undeniable and we are excited to see more albums from this duo.
Burna Boy & Victony
In the early days of the New Year, Burna Boy was seen in the club previewing an unreleased track with Victony via his Instagram story, and fans have been buzzing with excitement and anticipation over this one. It is still largely unclear if this club banger would be released this year, but fans are hopeful and expectant.
- Buju & Zinoleesky
Another anticipated single on the way, Buju & Zinoleesky teased fans on social media with clips from the video shoot for what is rumored to be a remix to Buju’s ‘Kilometer’. With similar styles of music, we are excited to hear what a collaboration between these two would sound like.
- Kizz Daniel & Buju
In a popular tweet shared by Buju, he revealed that he was in the studio with Kizz Daniel and there is no doubt that magic will be made by these two.
Adekunle Gold & Ty Dolla $ign
Adekunle Gold collaborates with international act, Ty Dolla $ign on ‘One Woman’, the fourth track off his recently released album – ‘Catch Me If You Can’. The track which has become a fan favorite had the American singer hopping on an Afropop beat and singing in pidgin for the first time, and it was indeed a wonderful collaboration and merger of their worlds.
SARZ & Azanti
After a few weeks of various artistes hopping on the beat produced by Sarz for the #FreeSarz freestyle challenge, Sarz finally announced Azanti as the winner. By virtue of this, Sarz & Azanti will be working on a project together (similar to the Sarz & Lojay) and we are more than excited to hear the outcome of this collaboration.
- Basket Mouth & Wande Coal
This collaboration has been a long time coming apparently, as Basketmouth disclosed that he had chased Wande Coal for 2 years just to bring this song to life. Undeniably one of the best tracks on his ‘Horoscopes’ album, ‘Listen’ showcases Wande Coal’s effortless flow, as well as Basketmouth’s great ear for music.
- Magixx & Ayra Starr
A Mavin special, new artistes on the block – Magixx & Ayra Starr team up to give us a special remake of ‘Love Don’t Cost A Dime’. The song was originally performed by Magixx on his debut EP. Dubbed a ‘Re-Up’, this collaboration is guaranteed to give you butterflies in your belly.
