Happy International Women’s Day to all the amazing women across the world 💚🖤

In a world and industry where it is difficult for them to be seen or heard, the amazing women that make up the music industry across Africa still remain true to themselves and stay resilient & exceptional, unafraid to chase their dreams unapologetically and suppress all gender biases & boxes. 

In this article, we celebrate a few exceptional women in the music industry:

Tiwa Savage

Tiwa Savage is a British-Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress who is widely regarded as the “Queen of Afrobeats”. With over a decade in the industry, Tiwa has graced the industry with songs like: “Kele Kele Love”; “Eminado”; “49-99” & the recently released “Somebody’s Son” which features American singer, Brandy. 

Dunnie

Dunnie is a singer, songwriter, and record producer who has worked with the likes of Sean Tizzle, Wande Coal, Oxlade, Busiswah, and more, as well as brands such as Maggi, Ciroc, Kotex, and more. 

Simi

The sweet Afrobeats & Soul singer, songwriter, producer, and sound engineer has captivated our hearts with tracks such as: “Duduke”; “Jamb Question”, and “Chemistry (in collaboration with Falz)”.

Lady Donli:

Zainab Elizabeth Donli, known as Lady Donli, is a Nigerian-American musician, popularly referred to as “Cash Mummy”. She is an alternative R&B, hip hop, alternative jazz and Afrobeat singer and songwriter.

Wavy The Creator

Jennifer Ejoke, professionally known as Wavy the Creator, is a recording artist, photographer, fashion designer, and filmmaker, born in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, and raised in the United States. She is best known for her song “H.I.G.H” and as the official photographer of Nigerian hip-hop artist Olamide.

Sha Sha

Charmaine Shamiso Mapimbiro, professionally known as Sha Sha, is a Zimbabwean-born South African singer from Mutare. Hailed by many as “the queen of amapiano”, her career began in 2011, at the age of 19, and later was discovered by Audius Mtawarira. In her time, she’s worked with the likes of DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, and more.

RnB Princess

RnB Princess is a musician based in Lagos, Nigeria who is as much a storyteller as she is a brilliant singer and performer, with vocals that echo both warmth and a shocking cool through her listeners. Her greatest skill lies in the intentionality behind her music, how her songs are able to portray different characters, and her ability to weave full stories into simple lyrics that can be easily understood and yet leave her listeners wanting more.

Efya:

Jane Awindor (born April 10, 1990), better known by her stage name Efya, is a Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and actress from Kumasi. Efya got her first exposure to fame when she participated in the maiden edition of the Stars of the Future talent show. She won the Best Female Vocal Performance category at the Ghana Music Awards in four successions, beginning in 2011. Moreover, she was applauded for her performance at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards

Rindss

Rindss is a multi-genre singer & songwriter, best known for the ethereal & spiritual nature of her music. Despite a growing catalogue, Rindss has made strides with singles such as: “Run To You”; “Gymnast” & “Dead”.

Nikita Kering

Nikita Chepchumba Kering, popularly known as Nikita Kering, is a Kenyan musician, actress, and media personality who launched her career at an early age. She is currently most notable for her hit single “Ex” which was released in 2021.
