E2: What’s On Your Playlist (WYOP)

It’s a new week and we are back with this week’s suggestion of 5 songs you should include in your playlist (if you haven’t already). This week’s edition features a couple of tracks that are hot on the charts this year. Here are our top 5 picks;

Obsessed – Fave

Fave kicked off this year with the release of a 5-tracked Afrobeats EP dubbed Riddim 5 which she intends to use to solidify her place in the Mainstream industry. The first song “Obsessed” is an absolute addictive banger that marked a beautiful entry into the project. It is no doubt that we will not be getting tired of #Faveszn anytime soon as the EP hit #1 on the Apple Music Album charts in Nigeria in less than 24 hours of its release.

Medicine – Blaqbonez ft. Oxlade

Off the deluxe version of his Sex Over Love album, Blaqbonez collaborated with Oxlade to deliver this clever and sweet tune called “Medicine”. The best thing about this song, asides from Oxlade’s melodious vocals, is the effortlessness and storytelling in Blaqbonez’ verse.

Hrs & Hrs – Muni Long

If you are an R&B lover and this song is not on your playlist, what are you even doing? The trending single off her 2021 Album Public Displays of Affection, “Hrs & Hrs” has taken over the internet, with famous singers all over the world posting up covers to the song. What is most striking about the record is its homage to the authentic R&B sound that we all grew up listening to and loving. Despite being a relatively new name, Muni Long has been in the industry for over a decade and has written for the likes of Rihanna, Chris Brown, Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande, to name a few.

Gbera – Kanwulia

Fast-rising American-Nigerian artiste Kanwulia blessed us with a body of work dubbed Amerikana in 2020. The perfect blend of sounds reminiscent to the African Diaspora and the African identity, Kanwulia also released a visual Album for each track on the project – earning her the title of the first Nigerian Artist to release a visual album. An instant fave and one of the leading singles off the album, “Gbera” is guaranteed to get you on your feet and have you busting a move or two.

Mercy – Adekunle Gold

The recent release off his highly anticipated forthcoming album Catch Me If You Can, set to be released on February 4th, “Mercy” is a must-add to your playlist. In typical AG fashion, a popular line the song – “Make I no dey pop rose with my enemy” has fans going crazy on social media. We are looking forward to suggesting more songs from this album in the future, as there are expected features from Lucky Daye, Davido, Stefflon Don, Ty Dolla $ign & Foushee.
