Akitoye Balogun mostly known as Ajebutter 22 is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He is popularly identified by his distinctive vocals and cheeky but intelligent rhymes and punchlines. Ajebutter is definitely up there amongst top lyricists of this time and his success and rapid growth rate is clear proof of that.
‘Bad gang’ is a phenomenal example of his depth and range as a distinct lyricist. It came together with a catchy-groovy beat that made us alter our body movements, followed by lyrics we could all relate to. It had content that is still unmatched and still relevant at the moment, rhymes we all vibed and laughed to coupled with punchlines that made us scream then ponder. Falz was the best person to put on this cause they both resonated with the same idea.
His partnership with Boj is one for the times. The proficient duo put out two projects which had us on the edge of our seats and continuously addicted to our earphones cause we couldn’t get enough of them. The hooks, choruses, and delivery were all inch-perfect. It features a range of content with Tungba and for the lovers, Yawa for the “Jaiye” gang, 24 for gratitude, and Taxi for the “sleepover” squad. I’ll never get over his line on 24 when he said “life is a comedy and a satire”. I personally think he was referring to life in Lagos though.
Ajebutter has been on the music scene for at least a decade and every time he delivers and then surpasses himself. It’s refreshing listening to him flow cause it’s not necessarily the ideal type of rap most grew up listening to but it’s definitely catchy, intelligent, and sticks. We hope to hear more from the lyricist over time.
